The Gershwin Gang

is fast becoming one of the country's leading society jazz trios. The band's reputation has spread fast. In May, they provided entertainment in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen, at The Royal Windsor Horse Show. Other 1999 highlights include Ascot, 'The Ritz' Hotel, and the Royal Lancashire Show as well as numerous private and corporate functions from London to Edinburgh.
Subscribing to the principle that the old songs really are the best, the Manhattan-style trio specialises in the well-known jazz songs written by the Gershwin brothers, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and others, and made popular by Fred Astaire, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and Sinatra. The Mad Hatter Band We are professional six piece Jazz/Dance Functions band (Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba/Bass, Drums & Piano). The music we play is mostly mainstream popular numbers, such as: Latin American (Mambo, Bossa nova, Tango etc.), 40's (composers such as Duke Ellington) 30's (composers such as Thomas Fats Waller) and Roaring twenties Jazz/dance numbers (such as the Charleston).  We also have a good selection of Ragtime (such as Alexander's Ragtime band and Twelfth St. Rag). Dixieland Jazz also. Roofgarden Jazz Ensemble
Biography: Established in 1998, the Roofgarden Jazz Ensemble has had vast experience playing at weddings and receptions. The band are able to perform a hugely varied programme, from 1920's jazz standards through to modern soul. Our current repertoire list includes over 200 songs, although any special requests from the bride or groom will be given special consideration and a full arranging service is offered should a piece of music be unavailable in print.
The band can perform in a two to eight piece line-up depending on your requirements/venue size restrictions. Whilst traditional jazz band instruments are commonly used, they can be interspersed with instruments rarely seen in jazz ensembles such as the violin. The band is currently resident jazz ensemble of The Landmark Hotel, London and their most recent concert engagement has been two appearances at the Summer 2000 Stockley Park Jazz Festival.
Roofgarden players have all received conservatoire training, and are greatly experienced performers. Roofgarden is full of energy and is guaranteed to make your wedding or reception a great success! Safe Sax Top sax band. Playing everything from classical to jazz, from pop to ballads, if we like it we play it.
John Kirk, a former Gordonstoun pupil who didn't cheat on Big Brother on television, now retired from helicopter flying, has been playing music all his life. His love of jazz shows, but his best performances on his Yanagasawa tenor sax have always been the romantic ballads, the love songs, anything with passion. Matti Kirk, full time carer for her disabled husband John, has been playing alto sax for two years. She provides the glamour to the band. Her favourites include the duets with John, she loves the Blues Brothers, and really bounces along to the up-tempo popular music.
For weddings, we would like to provide the style of music you want. If you want smooth, sexy background music during your celebrations, that is fine. For those wishing a more specialist, jazz only style, it would be our pleasure. If greater numbers are wanted, more musicians can be added to the line up for the night. Safe Sax, based now in the Scottish Borders, are happy to perform anywhere, although the price must include travel beyond northern England and southern Scotland. Ask for # 557
